An alumnus of prestigious Harvard Business School, USA and Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur Mr. Bikram Dasgupta is among the select breed of professionals who have kick- started the IT revolution in India. He has been at the forefront of founding and building organizations, mentoring human resources and spearheading industry associations in the sector, which have gone a long way in putting India firmly on the global IT map.
Born and brought up in a Bengali middle class family, Mr. Dasgupta always wanted to do something different which would make him different from the rest. Starting his career as a part of marketing and business development team in HCL during its early stages, Bikram Dasgupta was one of the main forces of the company which helped it reach to the top of Indian IT hardware industry in the early 1980s.
In 1984, Mr. Bikram Dasgupta’s entrepreneurial ambition led him to quit HCL and co-found Pertech Computers Ltd (PCL) with only seven employees. As the Promoter-Director of the new company Mr. Dasgupta was at the forefront of all major operations including Sales & Marketing, International Business Development, and New Strategic Project. Under his able leadership PCL catapulted itself to the number one position in the Indian PC market and grew its employee strength to 1500. It is during this time Mr. Dasgupta single handedly bagged an export order of USD 50 million from Dell Computer, USA for PCL. The deal which is still regarded as the largest single contract in the hardware industry made Bikram Dasgupta a household name and the poster-boy of Indian IT industry.
