Mine is not a rags-to-riches story but that of middle-class aspirations. Which is not as dramatic, not as cinematic or climactic as the former but certainly hard-going… the focus, the single-minded, near obsessive determination to heave myself out of my circumstances, the impatience to get going is probably what set me apart…
